scientific name

Atherura africana
status

Type host: all type specimens were collected from vegetation africana Howard, 1909 , Haemaphysalis

Howard, C.W. (1909) A new species of Haemaphysalis from East Africa. Annals of the Transvaal Museum, 1, 219–223.

Type depositories: HC: syntypes (males, a female, nymphs and larvae) ( Howard 1909); BMNH: syntypes (a nymph and a larva) ( Keirans & Hillyard 2001)

Type locality: Manhiça , Maputo Province, Mozambique

Type host: Centropus burchellii

Current status: a synonym of Haemaphysalis hoodi , as stated in Camicas et al. (1998).

Comments: Keirans & Hillyard (2001) stated that the depository of the tick specimens used to describe Haemaphysalis africana is unknown, ignoring HC, probably because the location of HC is unknown; these authors also named the type host as Centropus superciliosus burchellii .
