Neumann, L.G. (1901) Révision de la famille des ixodidés (4 e mémoire). Mémoires de la Société Zoologique de France, 14, 249–372.

Type depositories: BMNH: a lectotype (male) and a paralectotype (female) were designated in Walker et al. (2000) ; ZMB: paralectotypes (males and females)

Type locality: Pangani River , Masimani Mountains, Tanzania

Type host: Syncerus caffer

Comments: Neumann (1901) described Rhipicephalus appendiculatus using several specimens collected at the type locality and other localities and deposited in the ZMB; Walker et al. (2000) treated the specimens in the ZMB as syntypes, but they are considered here to be paralectotypes.
