Type depositories: BMNH and USNTC: syntypes (females) ( Keirans & Clifford 1978) ; MCZ: paratypes (females) Type locality: Mammoth Springs , Arkansas, USA

Type host: Ondatra zibethicus

Comments: Keirans & Clifford (1978) listed paratypes of Ixodes banksi deposited in the BMNH, MCZ and USNTC, a decision supported by Keirans & Clifford (1984) for the USNTC. No holotype was specifically designated for Ixodes banksi , and types of this species are treated here as syntypes, an approach also taken by Keirans & Hillyard (2001).
