Type depository: OVI: a lectotype (male) and paralectotypes (males, a female and nymphs) ( Hoogstraal & Wassef 1981)

Type locality: Onderstepoort , Pretoria, Province of Gauteng, South Africa

Type host: Pedetes capensis

Comments: Hoogstraal & Wassef (1981) designated a lectotype of Haemaphysalis cooleyi , but other specimens were named as paratypes, although they should be treated as paralectotypes.
