Comments: Wassef & Hoogstraal (1983) designated a lectotype and paralectotypes from specimens in the Neumann tick collection at the ENV, but it is unclear whether the specimens deposited there belong to the syntype series of Dermacentor compactus . Syntypes are still held at the MZB, as detailed in Moritz & Fischer (1981), and the lectotype and paralectotypes in Wassef & Hoogstraal (1983) are probably invalid, as discussed in Guglielmone et al. (2014).
