Omorgus sp. indet., near Omorgus costatus (Wiedemann,1823)
INDIA: MAHARASHTRA. A single specimen was collected from bat guano inside a subterranean cave in the northern Western Ghats, in which several thousand frugivorous and insectivorous bats aggregate (unpublished record, Aparna S. Kalawate, personal communication). This Omorgus species may be an undescribed species, but highly similar to Omorgus costatus (Kalawate, personal communication). Dr Kalawate is pursuing the identification of this beetle, or will newly describe it if it is a new species. We consider this to be an accidental collection.
Depending on its identity, possibly a new record of a trogid species in a cave and associated with bat guano. First published record of this phenomenon for India.
