Phthiarella serrulata Brailovsky and Barrera , new species.

Diagnosis. Related to P. rondonia here described, each with anterior lobe of pronotal disk and corium behind claval commissure with wide yellowish to yellowish orange transverse fascia, and coxae, trochanters and femora yellowish orange. In P. serrulata sp. nov., the antennal segment I are black; the humeral angles medium sized, directed backward; and propleura with short yellowish spot near upper margin. In P. rondonia the antennal segment I are dark orange with basal and apical joint black; the humeral angles short, acute and directed outward; and propleura without yellow spot near upper margin.

Description. Holotype female. Body length 21.54. Head length 2.55; width across eyes 2.45; interocular distance 1.32; interocellar distance 0.60; preocular distance 1.45; length antennal segments: I, 4.20; II, 4.97; III, 3.60; IV 6.90; pronotum: total length 3.25; width across humeral angles 6.60; scutellum: length 2.45; width 2.70.

Dorsal coloration. Head metallic green with short yellow spot behind each ocelli; antennal segments I–III black with metallic bluish green reflections, IV dull black; pronotum with collar, calli and anterolateral borders metallic green; anterior lobe with wide yellowish transverse fascia not reaching the anterolateral borders; posterior lobe black with punctures metallic bluish; scutellum and clavus black with bluish reflections; apex of claval commissure yellow; corium black with bluish reflections and wide yellowish transverse fascia behind claval commissure reaching the costal borders; hemelytral membrane black with metallic bluish green reflections; connexival segments III–IV yellowish and V–IX black with metallic green reflections; dorsal abdominal segments III–V yellow to yellowish orange and VI–IX black. Ventral coloration. Head metallic green with short yellow spot at each side of midline near collar; rostral segment I metallic green, II black with metallic green reflections at basal joint, III–IV black; pro-, meso-, and metasternum, inner border of acetabulae, anterior and posterior lobe of metathoracic peritreme, coxae, tochanters, femora and abdominal sternite III–IV yellowish orange; propleura metallic green with small yellow spot near upper margin; meso-, metapleura, abdominal sterna V–VII and genital plates metallic green; tibiae and tarsi black with metallic green reflections.

Structure. Head. Rostrum reaching middle third of abdominal sternite IV. Thorax. Humeral angles with medium size spine, acute and directed backward.

Variation. 1, rostral segment II yellow with basal third black and III yellow. 2, abdominal sternite IV yellow with posterior margin metallic green.

Male. Unknown.

Etymology. From the Latin “ serra”, saw, referring to the anterolateral borders of pronotum dentate.

Type locality. Ecuador, Province Napo. Type material. HOLOTYPE female , ECUADOR, Province Napo, vic Puerto Misahualli , collected with fish carrion baited butterfly trap, 1650’–1900’ 1°2’4.2’’S- 77°39’49’’W, 6–19–IX–1998, J. E. Eger ( UNAM).
