Phthiarella interula Brailovsky and Barrera , new species

Diagnosis. Phthiarella interula sp. nov., like P. lancea here described with coxae, trochanters and femora black with metallic green reflections, and corium completely metallic green. In P. lancea the pronotum is entirely metallic green, in P. interula with wide yellowish transverse fascia not reaching the anterolateral borders ( Figs. 49‒54).

Description. Holotype male. Body length 16.48. Head length 2.30; width across eyes 2.15; interocular distance 1.15; interocellar distance 0.52; preocular distance 1.27; length antennal segments: I, 3.79; II, 4.38; III, 3.10; IV 6.12; pronotum: total length 2.45; width across humeral angles 4.65; scutellum: length 1.85; width 2.05.

Dorsal coloration. Head metallic green with small yellow spot behind each ocelli; antennal segments I–III black with bluish reflections, IV dark brown; pronotum with collar, calli, anterolateral borders and humeri metallic green; anterior lobe with wide yellowish transverse fascia not reaching the anterolateral borders; posterior lobe black, scattered with metallic green reflections; scutellum, clavus and corium black, scattered with metallic bluish green reflections; hemelytral membrane black; connexival segments III–VII black with upper border metallic green; abdominal segments III–V orange, VI black and VII black with posterior margin metallic green. Ventral coloration. Head metallic green; rostral segment I metallic green, II–IV dark brown; pro-, and mesosternum yellow; metasternum dark brown with posterior border yellow; pro-, meso-, and metapleura metallic green with inner border of meso-, and metaacetabulae and anterior and posterior lobe of metathoracic peritreme yellow; evaporative area black; coxae, trochanters, and femora black with metallic bluish green reflections; tibiae and tarsi dark brown; abdominal sterna, pleural margins and genital capsule metallic green.

Structure. Head. Rostrum reaching middle third of abdominal sternite IV. Thorax. Humeral angles thick at base, tapering into short acute spine. Genital capsule. Posteroventral edge gently sinuate, lateral angles rounded, slightly folded inward ( Fig. 66). Parameres. Figs. 96‒99.

Female. Body length 20.67. Head length 2.55; width across eyes 2.50; interocular distance 1.40; interocellar distance 0.63; preocular distance 1.47; length antennal segments: I, 4.12; II, 4.72; III, 3.50; IV 6.23; pronotum: total length 3.05; width across humeral angles 6.05; scutellum: length 2.45; width 2.56.

Color and habitus similar to male holotype. Abdominal segments VIII–IX black with upper border metallic green; dorsal abdominal segments VII–IX black; genital plates metallic green.

Etymology. From the Latin “ interulus-a” meaning inner, under.

Type locality. Brazil, Rondonia .
