Phthiarella flebilisa Brailovsky and Barrera , new species

Diagnosis. Phthiarella flebilisa sp. nov, is the only known species of “decorata ” group with the wide yellow transverse fascia of the anterior lobe of pronotal disk complete, reaching and cover the middle third of the anterolateral borders; and the wide yellow transverse fascia on corium not reaching the costal border. In addition, the propleura have a yellow triangular spot near the upper margin, the rostral segments II–III are yellow and the spine of humeral angles are acute and relatively large.

Description. Holotype male. Body length 15.77. Head: length 2.22; width across eyes 2.20; interocular distance 1.07; interocellar distance 0.42; preocular distance 1.26; length antennal segments: I 3.68, II, 4.15, III, 2.90, IV, 5.70; pronotum: total length 2.50; maximum width across humeral angles 4.95; scutellum: length 1.80; width 2.02.

Dorsal coloration. Head metallic bluish green with short yellow spot behind each ocelli; antennal segment I black with metallic green reflections, II–III black with purple reflections, IV dark brown; pronotum with collar, calli, apical third of anterolateral borders and humeral spine metallic green; anterior lobe with complete wide yellow transverse fascia, reaching and cover the middle third of the anterolateral borders; posterior lobe black; scutellum black scattered with green reflections; clavus black with bluish metallic reflections; corium black with bluish metallic reflections and incomplete wide transverse fascia, touching the apex of claval commissure and not reaching the costal borders; hemelytral membrane black with bluish reflections; connexival segments III–VII black with upper borders metallic green; dorsal abdominal segments III–VII black with green metallic spot between segments IV–V. Ventral coloration. Head metallic bluish green; rostral segment I metallic bluish green, II–III yellow and IV yellow with apical third dark brown; pro-, meso-, and metasternum yellow; propleura metallic bluish green with wide yellow triangular spot near middle third and close to the anterolateral borders; meso-, and metapleura metallic bluish green; pro-, meso-, and meta-acetabulae entirely metallic bluish green; anterior lobe of metathoracic peritreme black with dark yellow spot, and posterior lobe and evaporative area black; coxae and trochanters yellow; femora black with bluish green reflections and basal joint yellow; tibiae dark brown with bluish green reflections; tarsi dark brown; abdominal sterna III–VII and genital capsule metallic bluish green.

Structure. Head. Rostrum reaching middle third of abdominal sternite IV. Thorax. Humeral angles projected into large acute spine. Genital capsule. Posteroventral edge sinuate to almost straight; lateral angles rounded, slightly folded inward.

Female. Unknown.

Etymology. From the Latin “ flebilisus-a ‘’meaning tearful, doleful.

Type locality. Ecuador, Province Morona Santiago (Macas) .

Material examined. Type material. HOLOTYPE male, ECUADOR, Province Morona Santiago, NE Macas, 30–VIII–1987, Dressler, Hills, Whitten & Williams ( UNAM).
