Phthiarella morsa Brailovsky and Barrera , new species.
( Figs. 17‒18, 60, 78‒79)
Diagnosis. Resembling P. decorata (Stål) by having the abdominal sterna III–IV yellow, and the anterior lobe of pronotal disk and corium with wide yellow to yellowish orange transverse fascia. In P. morsa sp. nov., the pro-, meso-, and meta-acetabulae are metallic green; and the femora metallic green with the basal joint yellow and in P decorata the inner border of pro-, and meso-acetabulae and the inner margin of meta-acetabulae are yellow; and the femora black with bluish green reflections and basal joint yellow.
Description. Holotype male. Body length 17.38. Head: length 2.35; width across eyes 2.25; interocular distance 1.22; interocellar distance 0.52; preocular distance 1.40; length antennal segments: I 4.55, II, 5.10, III, 3.70, IV, 6.50; pronotum: total length 2.30; maximum width across humeral angles 5.55; scutellum: length 2.25; width 2.35.
Dorsal coloration. Head metallic bluish green with short yellow spot behind each ocelli; antennal segments I–II black, scattered with metallic bluish green reflections, III–IV dark brown to black; pronotum with collar, calli, anterolateral borders and humeral angles metallic bluish green; anterior lobe with wide yellowish orange transverse fascia not reaching the anterolateral borders; posterior lobe metallic bluish green; scutellum black scattered with bluish green metallic reflections; clavus and corium black with bluish green reflections and with complete wide yellow to yellowish orange transverse fascia touching the apex of claval commissure and reaching the costal border; hemelytral membrane dark brown with or without bluish green reflections; connexival segments III–IV yellow, V–VII black with upper border metallic green; dorsal abdominal segments III–IV orange, V–VII black. Ventral coloration. Head metallic green; rostral segment I metallic green, II–IV dark brown to black; pro-, meso-, and metasternum yellow; pro-, meso-, and metapleura included the acetabulae metallic green; anterior and posterior lobe of metathoracic peritreme yellow; evaporative area black; coxae and trochanters yellow; femora metallic green with basal joint yellow; tibiae black to dark brown with metallic green reflections; tarsi dark brown to black; abdominal sterna III–IV yellow, V–VII and genital capsule metallic green; pleural abdominal margins III–IV yellow, V–VII metallic green.
Structure. Head. Rostrum reaching posterior border of abdominal sternite IV. Thorax. Humeral angles narrow at base with median size acute spine directed outward. Genital capsule. Posteroventral edge sinuate, lateral angles rounded, slightly folded inward ( Fig. 60). Parameres. Figs.78‒79.
Female. Unknown.
Etymology. From the Latin “ morsus-a” meaning bitten, bite.
Type locality. Brazil, Rondonia .
Material examined. Type material. HOLOTYPE male, BRAZIL, Rondonia, 62 km SE Ariquemes , 7–18–XI– 1995, W. J. Hanson ( UNAM) . PARATYPE: 1 male, BRAZIL, Rondonia, 3 km N, Linea C-20 off B-65 “Ahrenholz” tr. 10°32’S –2°48’’W, 21– III –1991, F. W. Skillman ( UNAM) .
