Phthiarella ignota Brailovsky and Barrera , new species

( Figs. 5‒6)

Diagnosis. Like P. decens sp. nov., P. ignota sp. nov., has in the anterior lobe of pronotum a wide yellow transverse fascia not reaching the anterolateral borders; the corium black with bluish green metallic reflections without yellow to yellowish orange transverse fascia; and femora black with metallic green reflections and with basal joint yellow to yellowish orange. In P. ignota sp. nov., the coxae and trochanters are yellow to yellowish orange and in P. decens sp. nov. entirely black.

Description. Holotype male. Body length 16.86. Head: length 2.32; width across eyes 2.22; interocular distance 1.20; interocellar distance 0.51; preocular distance 1.27; length antennal segments: I 4.40, II, 4.67, III, 3.38, IV, 6.75; pronotum: total length 2.50; maximum width across humeral angles 5.05; scutellum: length 1.85; width 2.10.

Dorsal coloration. Head metallic green with short yellowish spot behind each ocelli; antennal segments I–II black with metallic green reflections, III–IV black to dark brown; pronotum with collar, calli, anterolateral borders and posterior border metallic green; anterior lobe with wide yellow transverse fascia not reaching the anterolateral borders; scutellum, clavus and corium black with bluish green metallic reflections; hemelytral membrane dark brown; connexival segments III–VII black with metallic green reflections; abdominal segments III–V orange, VIVII black with posterior margin with metallic green reflections. Ventral coloration. Head metallic green; rostral segment I metallic green, II–IV dark brown; pro-, meso-, and metasternum yellow; pro-, meso-, and metapleura metallic green with inner border of meta-acetabulae and anterior and posterior lobe of metathoracic peritreme dark yellow; evaporative area black; coxae, and trochanters yellowish orange, femora black with metallic green reflections and basal joint yellowish orange, tibiae black with metallic green reflections and tarsi black; abdominal sterna, pleural abdominal margins and genital capsule metallic green.

Structure. Head: Rostrum reaching posterior margin of abdominal sternite IV. Thorax: Humeral angles with short acute spine directed outward. Genital capsule: Posteroventral edge sinuate; lateral angles rounded, slightly folded inward.

Female. Unknown.

Etymology. From the Latin word “ ignotus-a”, meaning unknown, strange.

Type locality. Brazil, Rondonia .

Material examined. Type material. HOLOTYPE male, BRAZIL, Rondonia, 62 km SE Ariquemes , 13–15– IV–1992, W. J. Hanson ( UNAM).
