Diagnostic cytochrome c oxidase subunit I amino acids that distinguish between Alcyonidioides and Alcyonidium are as follows: leucine/phenylalanine (22), isoleucine/leucine (195), isoleucine/valine (255), threonine/valine (272), serine/alanine (327), leucine/methionine (329), and leucine/isoleucine (365); positions given in parentheses correspond to alignment positions shown in Supporting Information, Figure S9.
