status

6. Kalanchoe laciniata ( Linnaeus 1753: 430) Candolle (1802 View in CoL : t. 100) ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 ).

Type:—“ Cotyledon afra, folio crasso, lato laciniato, flosculo aureo laciniata”, a cultivated plant from Africa, Hortus cliffortianus 175 (lectotype BM barcode BM000628567!), designated as type by Fernandes (1980: 376), corrected to “ lectotype ” by Jarvis (2007: 451).

Iconography:— Wight (1846: No. 1158), Thonner (1915: t. 59), Smith et al. (2019: 165–169), Smith & Figueiredo (2024: 112).

Secondary distribution:— Egypt = (cultivated) ( Wickens 1994). Morocco = cited by Fennane (2018) as: “Elements pour un livre rouge de la flore vasculaire du Maroc” [as K. faustii Font Quer (1935: 149) ]. Rankou et al. (2013) treated K. laciniata subsp. faustii (Font Quer) Maire (1977: 258) as possibly endemic to Morocco, but also noted that it could perhaps have been introduced. Maire (1977: 258) and El Alaoui Faris & Ibn Tattou (1999) also treated this taxon, as K. laciniata subsp. faustii , as endemic, but other authors, such as Descoings (2003: 160), regarded it as having been introduced and subsequently having become naturalised.

[Also in the U.S.A.]

Notes:— Jarvis (2007: 451) cited Fernandes (1980: 376) as the author of the typification because Cufodontis (1965), while discussing the species at some length, did not typify the name. Wickens (1982) followed the typification of Fernandes (1980: 376).
