Generic diagnosis for Palearctic species of Agnocoris Reuter View in CoL View at ENA
Body length in male 4.4–5.6, in female 4.6–5.6; antennal segment II ≤ head width; color yellow to reddish-brown; male darker, often dark red; body covered with dense white setae; carina on vertex medially depressed; labium dark brown distally, reaching middle coxa; pronotum convex, deeply punctate, yellow-ochre, with white posterior margin, calli smooth; scutellum brown with pale apex, sometimes with pale longitudinal marking medially; metathoracic evaporatory scent gland area opening reaches apex of peritremal disc; hemelytron yellow to reddish-brown, faintly punctate; membrane gray, yellowish laterally; legs yellow-ochre, femora with two irregular brown/red rings in apical half; middle and hind tibiae with spines and white setae, with two dark spots basally; fore tibia without spines; tarsi yellow-ochre, distal third of tarsal segment III darker; tarsal segment II 0.75× as long as segment III ( Fig. 6H View FIGURE 6 ); left paramere without spines on sensory lobe ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ); vesica with three membranous lobes; secondary gonopore oriented left; plate-like sclerite above secondary gonopore present ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 ); sclerotized rings of dorsal labiate plate subequal to third of dorsal labiate plate width, distance between rings equal to or less than ring width, sclerite under sclerotized ring present; posterior wall with interramal lobes contiguous with each other, lateral lobe mostly or entirely covering interramal lobe ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 ).
Key to species
1 Antennal segment II / head width ratio equal 0.84 in male, 0.80–0.82 in female; right paramere body with sulcus dorsally, right paramere with angle between apical process and body equal 20° ( Ribes 1977)............................. A. eduardi
- Antennal segment II / head width ratio equal 0.9–1 in male, 0.83–1 in female ( Table 1 View TABLE 1 ); right paramere body without sulcus dorsally, right paramere with angle between apical process and body right or obtuse (70–100°) ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 )................. 2
2 Vertex width / eye diameter ratio 1.15–1.20 in male ( Table 1 View TABLE 1 ); left paramere with apical process twice as long as sensory lobe width, sensory lobe as ca. 2.4× long as wide; right paramere ca. 3× as long as wide, with apical process triangular, its width subequal to half of right paramere body width ( Fig. 3F–J View FIGURE 3 ); vesica with posterior sclerite only slightly surpassing secondary gonopore, with spines covering only half of its posterior side; ductus seminis as wide as spicule, spicule surpassing secondary gonopore at distance subequal to third of spicule length; plate-like sclerite above secondary gonopore distinct ( Fig. 4E–H View FIGURE 4 ); distance between sclerotized rings of dorsal labiate plate subequal to half of ring width; sclerite under sclerotized ring oval, its length subequal to half of sclerotized ring width; posterior wall of bursa copulatrix with interramal lobe entirely covered with lateral lobe ( Fig. 5A,C View FIGURE 5 )...................................................................... A. rubicundus
- Vertex width / eye diameter ratio 1.3 in male ( Table 1 View TABLE 1 ); left paramere with apical process 2.2× as long as sensory lobe width, sensory lobe as long as wide, right paramere twice as long as wide, with apical process hooked apically ca. 0.3× as wide as right paramere body width ( Fig. 3A–E View FIGURE 3 ); vesica with posterior sclerite distinctly surpassing secondary gonopore, with spines covering most of its posterior side; ductus seminis ca. 1.5× as wide as spicule, spicule slightly surpassing secondary gonopore; plate-like sclerite above secondary gonopore weakly sclerotized ( Fig. 4A–D View FIGURE 4 ); distance between sclerotized rings of dorsal labiate plate subequal to ring width; sclerite under sclerotized ring acute, its length subequal to 0.75× of sclerotized ring width; posterior wall of bursa copulatrix with interramal lobes partially covered with lateral lobe ( Fig. 5B,D View FIGURE 5 ).................
