Diagnosis of the melanocerus View in CoL species group
The main diagnostic character of the Merodon melanocerus species group is the presence of a patch of dense and strong yellow pile on the metatrochanter ( Fig. 3A View Fig : marked with arrow). The melanocerus species subgroup has the oral margin notched, produced forward, and bare ( Fig. 3B View Fig : marked with arrow), while the planifacies species subgroup has the oral margin reduced and microtrichose.
