Material Examined. Holotype female of falsus : Mexico. Tabasco: Cárdenas , 30 m alt., on “follaje de pasto ‘Pará’ ( Panicum sp. )”, 3.vii.1973 ( R. M.Johansen) ( IBUNAM).

Described from Tabasco state, this was described as the third species of Adraneothrips in Mexico ( Johansen 1974). Direct observation allowed us to correct this identification as a new synonymy of Bamboosiella cingulata (Hood) . The specimen has a bicolored body, with abdominal segments I–VII yellow and maxillary stylets inserted low on the head ( Figs 1–2 View FIGURES 1–11 ). In addition, it can be distinguished from other congenerics by the well-developed pronotal anteromarginal setae and fore wing without duplicated cilia. Bamboosiella species can be identified using the keys proposed by Pitkin (1977) and Okajima (2006). Apart from the current synonym, in Mexico this species has been recorded in coffee flowers ( Infante et al. 2017). Bamboosiella cingulata is common in tropical Asia, but has become widespread on other continents, where it is commonly found at the base of grasses, possibly preying on small arthropods ( Mound & Wells 2015). In the Neotropics, it has been reported in Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Trinidad, Panama and Guadeloupe ( Mound & Marullo 1996).
