scientific name

Linaria spartea (L.) Chaz.
status

Antirrhinum spartum Linnaeus , Centuria I Plantarum: 17. 1755, nom. illeg.

"Habitat in Lusitania." RCN: 4456.

Replaced synonym of: Antirrhinum junceum L. (1759) .

Type not designated.

Original material: none traced.

Current name: Linaria spartea (L.) Chaz. View in CoL View at ENA ( Scrophulariaceae ).

Note: This name has been mostly treated as a later homonym of A. sparteum L. (1753) and hence illegitimate, though Rickett (in Lloydia 18: 58. 1955) had doubts as to whether it should be treated in this way. As noted by Nordenstam (in Bot. Not. 114: 277. 1961), Linnaeus replaced A. spartum with A. junceum in the reprint of Cent. I Pl. (in Amoen. Acad. 4: 277. 1759), though the latter name was actually first published in Syst. Nat., ed. 10 ( May–Jun 1759).
