gen. nov.

Genus Puripsychops gen. nov.

Type and only species. Puripsychops eurypterus sp. nov.

Diagnosis. Outer wing margin smooth; most RP branches shallowly forked; M forked near the middle, MA branched with several sub-branches, MP deeply dichotomously branched near the middle part of wing, two primary branches forming several sub-branches; CuP deeply dichotomously forked once.

Etymology. Derived from the Latin prefix puri - (meaning “pure”), and - psychops, a traditional generic ending of Osmylopsychopidae , referring to the absence of wing markings. Gender is masculine.

Remarks. Puripsychops gen. nov. is most characterized by its configuration of M. M forked at its middle part in this new genus while M forked near the wing base in Archepsychops , Brongniartiella , Gayndahpsychops , Osmylopsychops , Petropsychops , Triassopsychops and Nipponopsychops ( Lambkin, 2014; Peng et al., 2015; Khramov et al., 2024); Additionally, MA forked distally in Puripsychops while MA forked near the middle or near the base of wing in Minipsychops ( Liu et al., 2023); MP forked near the middle part of wing in Puripsychops while MP forked distally in Daopsychops , Eupypsychops , Nematopsychops , Osmylopsychoides , Osmylopsychostoechus , Psychostoechotes and Stenopteropsychops ( Peng et al., 2015; Khramov et Makarkin, 2015). Moreover, this new genus can be easily distinguished from other genera by its smooth wing margin ( vs. outer wing margin undulate in Undulopsychopsis ) ( Peng et al., 2011), the deeply forked RP1 ( vs. RP1 shallowly forked in Ochropsychops ) ( Peng et al., 2015) and CuP deeply forked once time ( vs. CuP deeply forked several times with numerous branches in Densipsychops ).
