Female. Abdominal sternites mostly yellow, with diffuse brownish markings posterolaterally. Sternite VII broad; posterior margin with pair of broadly rounded lobes; roundedly excavated medially; centrally with a large dark brown marking. Pygofer yellow with pair of subapical brown spots; with tuft of light colored macrosetae before brown spot and numerous brown macrosetae apically.

Notes. Among the specimens in the recovered loan was a paratype of this species from Puerto Suarez, Bolivia. Oman (1938) described the genus Bolarga Oman, 1938, designated B. boliviana as the type species, and synonymized the variety pallida Osborn with B. boliviana . Linnavuori (1959) provided some illustrations of the male genitalia. The habitus is illustrated here for the first time, and additional images of the genitalia are provided. The apices of the forewings and hindlegs and the macrosetae of the pygofer of the paratype specimen are apparently burnt or singed.

Linnavuori (1959) described and illustrated the male genitalia of this species. However, he apparently mistakenly described the pygofer “as in the following species [ B. quadrimaculata Lv. ]” which is described partly as “without a sclerified lobe”. The pygofer of B. boliviana has inner ventral margins thickened and produced anteriorly into sclerotized lobes that cross each other and extend mesad of the styles ( Figs. 12D–E View FIGURE 12 ). Linnavuori (1959) described and illustrated similar structures in Bolarga nigriloba Linnavuori, 1959 .

The coloration on the forewings is more variable than previously described. One female specimen among the series from Corumba , Brazil lacks any fuscous spots or markings at the base and middle of the forewing, while others in the series possess markings. Within the series from Guyana, the fuscous markings at the base of the forewing vary from a roundish spot ( Figs. 12A–B View FIGURE 12 ) to a more elongate marking along the inner cell of the clavus ( Fig. 12G View FIGURE 12 ).
