Notes
Strophopteryx appalachia is commonly referred to as the Appalachian Willowfly ( Stark et al. 2012). This is an Appalachian-distributed species known from New York southwest to Tennessee and Georgia ( Stewart 2000, DeWalt et al. 2024, Verdone et al. 2025). Larvae were described by Earle and Stewart (2008). In New York, adults of this species have been collected from late March through mid-April (Fig. 22 View Figure 22 ). Strophopteryx appalachia has been reported from elevations ranging from 128-218 m asl (Fig. 23 View Figure 23 ) from only four locations in Level IV Ecoregions Taconic Foothills (58 x), Hudson Valley (59 i), and Northern Glaciated Limestone Ridges, Valleys, and Terraces (67 l) (Fig. 24 b View Figure 24 b ). Further collection efforts in the southern tier of the state may yield additional records.
