The fossil species Aralia dubia Nikitin (1976: 186) was established on the fruit endocarps from the Miocene sediments of the famous fossil plant locality Mamontova Gora (Mammuth Hill) at Aldan river in Siberia (Yakutia ( Saha) Republic of Russian Federation). It is also a later homonym of extant species A. dubia Sprengel (1827: 125) . Another homonym, A. dubia ( Ettingshausen 1868: 64) ( Schimper 1874: 35) [IFPNI: http://fossilplants.info/names/ BF67679B- B6ED-4EF2-AE36-73453BDAE2DE] was published for the fossil leaves from the Miocene of Münzenberg, Wetterau, Hessen, Germany. In addition, one more later homonym A. dubia Fontaine (1889: 314) [IFPNI: http://fossilplants.info/ names/ E4F05BFA-8A16-4968-8820-0A8BAA7DAE5A] was also established for the fossil leaves from the Lower Cretaceous (Potomac Group) of Virginia, USA, which was later corrected by a new replacement name A. fontainei Knowlton (1898: 37) [IFPNI: http://fossilplants.info/names/ 539FB85E-6A87-41AC-A54F-2259D32F537B]. Since Aralia dubia Nikitin [IFPNI: http://fossilplants.info/names/ 04C8AA82-4A5F-4E75-838D-8B77A893AB56] has no taxonomic synonyms, a replacement name is proposed below in accordance with the requirements of the International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi, and Plants ( McNeill & al. 2012):
