Le genre Cryptotrogus Kraatz,1888 [syn. Cyphonoxia Reitter, 1889 , voir Montreuil & Keith (2017)] regroupe actuellement près d’une trentaine d’espèces réparties de l’Afrique du Nord à l’Asie centrale et l’Inde (Baraud, 1985; Montreuil & Keith, 2017; Montreuil et al., 2019; Bezděk et al., 2019). Ce genre est particulièrement bien diversifié en Iran où treize espèces ont été signalées.
