Culex ( Microculex) retrosus Lane & Whitman, 1951: 356 View in CoL ( imitator View in CoL subspecies; ♂, ♀, Pe, Le). Holotype in USNM. Type locality: Rio de Janeiro, Guanabara , Brazil.
Belkin et al. 1971: 26 (ty. info.); Xavier 1973 (ty. info.).
Male genitalia ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 ): Tergum IX lobes semicircular, similar to those of Cx. imitator although with varying semicircular shape; each lobe with 35 simple setae in the apical area; distance between lobes equal to basal width. Gonocoxite oblong, similar to that of Cx. imitator . Distal division of subapical lobe with continuous set of similar setae occupying ventromesal surface to the base of the columnar process. Columnar process with 2 evident, strong, filiform setae ( a and b) with pointed apices, seta a inserted basal to seta b. Slender gonostylus, slightly curved, tapering towards apex, with broad, leaf-like gonostylar claw with pointed apex. Aedeagus with sclerotized dorsolateral process; ventral process with pointed apex; apical process strongly sclerotized, convex and pointed. Proctiger with elongate, somewhat triangular tergum X, apical process broad; basal process pointed. Paraproct elongate. Crown with 8 simple, pointed, curved blades.
