Bibio dacunhai Hardy, 1981 View in CoL ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 )

Type-locality. Brazil, Minas Gerais, Camanducaia (Vila Monte Verde).

Distribution. Brazil and Uruguay. This species is probably more widespread, but the Neotropical species of Bibio have not been revised making accurate identification difficult or impossible.

Material examined. Maldonado: Sierra de las Ánimas , 34°45’S, 55°19’W, 6♂, 1♀, 27-ix-1953, L.C. Zolessi leg., flying, S.J. Fitzgerald det. (FCE-Dip 1113) GoogleMaps . Rivera: Lunarejo stream, 31°12’20.3”S, 55°52’38.1”W, 2♂, 29- vii-1995, M. Martínez leg., S.J. Fitzgerald det. (FCE-Dip 1114) GoogleMaps .

General references. Fitzgerald, 1997.

Comments. The material identified as B. dacunhai Hardy here match well with the original description of this species ( Hardy 1981b), but the presence of other very similar species is possible and many of the historically described species can not presently be reliably recognized from their original descriptions; some are only known from one sex. Fitzgerald (1997) studied the types of several of the Neotropical species as part of a revision of the Mexican and Central American fauna, but a review of the South American species is needed.
