Comments. Plecia gibbosa Hardy was described with an orange thorax. The specimens listed here have the thorax dark brown to blackish, but otherwise have terminalia which appear (from photos) to be similar or the same as in P. gibbosa ; these may just represent a dark color morph of P. gibbosa or they may represent a different species. Several other species (some with a dark mesonotum) have male terminalia very similar to P. gibbosa such as P. grisea Edwards , P. rostellata Loew , and P. nuptialis Bravo, Castro and Araújo. A thorough comparison of these taxa would be valuable.
