Note: In litt. Márcio Felix, CEIOC, 11 November 2019 to WLM: “Many specimens were taken without registration from the collection in the 60’s and 70’s, during the military dictatorship in Brazil. So, we do not know where they are right now.” Unnumbered.
AT (lectoallotype designated by WLM herein, subsequent to original description): ♀ Brazil, Parana: 6 km SE of Morretes/Reared at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, “6778GV ♀ / Protodictya apicalis Steyskal, det. JA 1968/ Protodictya apicalis Steyskal, Det. Jay Abercrombie 2010 .” Pupa in gelatin capsule on same pin as adult fly. USNM (found in USNM in April 2023 by Wayne N. Mathis).
Note: Original AT, designated in Marinoni & Knutson 1992: 37: ♀ Brazil [Minas Gerais], “Juiz de Fora / Salvaterra / Lopes Jan, [1]945”. USNM. WLM did not find the specimen in USNM in October 2022.

HOSTS/PREY OF LARVAE: Larvae of P. apicalis fed on the following snails in the laboratory: Aplexa hypnorum , Biomphalaria glabrata , B. tenagophila , Drepanotrema kermatoides , Galba humilis , Gyraulus parvus , Helisoma trivolvis , Physella gyrina , P. sayii , Planorbula armigera , Retinella sp. , Stagnicola palustris , and Succinea pusilla . The larvae did not feed on snail eggs. Abercrombie 1970
