Note: Holotype and allotype apparently not subsequently examined.

PT: Malloch (1933: 320–321) stated, “ 18 paratypes, Peulla, Bariloche, Puerto Varas, Ensenada, Santiago, and Angol.” Marinoni & Knutson (1992: 29), under “Material-tipo examinado,” listed the following five specimens (all bearing a manuscript label “ paratype No. 44666”) as paratypes: 1♂ “Santiago/ Chile ”; 1♂ “Angol-Chile/ 28-Oct-1925 ”; 1♂ “Puerto Varas/Llanquihue/ Chile, Dec. 1926, R. & E. Shannon”; 1♀ “Puerto Varas/ Llanquihue/ Chile, Dec. 1926, R. & E. Shannon”; 1♀ “Ensenada/Llanquihue/ Chile, Dec. 1926, R. & E. Shannon.” Marinoni & Knutson (1992: 29) also listed 1♀ Puerto Varas, X.1926, R. & E. Shannon and 1♂ Bariloche, – XI.1926, R. & E. Shannon among “Material examinado” but without paratype number labels although they obviously were part of Malloch’s type series. All in USNM

HOSTS/PREY OF LARVAE: Larvae of P. chilensis fed on the following molluscs in the laboratory: Aplexa marmorata , Biomphalaria glabrata , Chilina fluctuosa , Galba humilis , Gyraulus parvus , Helisoma anceps , H. trivolvis , Lymnaea viator , Physa peruviana , Physella gyrina , Pisidium sp. , Stagnicola palustris , Succinea aequinoctialis , and Tropicorbis chilensis ( Abercrombie 1970) . V.W. Kaczynski (in litt.) noted that larvae also killed and fed on operculate snails.
