( Sciomyza ) [ Malloch 1933: 305 ( Melina ); Steyskal 1966: 445 ( Pherbellia ); Steyskal & Knutson 1975: 275 ( Eutrichomelina )]
HT: ♀ [ Chile] Port Famine in the Straits of Magellan, Capt. P.P. King. NHMUK, No. 63.43 [examined by Steyskal 1966: 445]
Note: The modern names of Port Famine are Fuerte Bulnes and Puerto Hambre/Puerto del Hambre ( 53°37’00”S 070°56’00”W). Steyskal (1966) commented, “This species was referred to Melina (preoccupied in Mollusca) by Malloch (1933, Dipt. Patagonia and S. Chile, pt. 6, fasc. 4: 305), where specimens from Bariloche were also recorded. Another specimen, a male with only the last-mentioned label, is a quite different fly with a strong mesopleural [anepisternal] bristle; one male from Bariloche also is a different species. The type female agrees well with Malloch’s description, but the exact identity will not be known until a description of the postabdomen [terminalia] of conspecific males can be made. The species should be known as Pherbellia fulvipennis (Walker) , new combination.”
