Type-species: Protodictya chilensis Malloch, 1933: 319 (original designation)
Note: Steyskal 1950: 33 (revision, key to species) wrote that H. Souza Lopes, CEIOC, loaned Brazilian Sciomyzidae to him, including specimens of P. guttalaris (1♂ 1♀), P. brasiliensis (8♂, of which 2♂ were retained in USNM), and P. iguassu (1♂). He noted that the specimens, except the 2♂ P. brasiliensis , were returned to CEIOC. Marinoni & Knutson 1992 (revision, key to species), Marinoni & Carvalho 1993 (cladistic analysis).
