Type species: Spirostreptus strongylopygus Attems, 1950 .
Name. A neologism composed of the Greek elements sagmos (saddle) + -streptus, a combining suffix derived from the generic name Spirostreptus , in allusion to the saddle-like dorsal markings of the type species.
Diagnosis. An African genus of Spirostreptidae characterized by large size, bifossate prebasilare sclerite in males, unmodified collum in males, closed coxal cavities, male legs with postfemoral and tibial pads, unmodified paraprocts, transverse mesosternum of gonopods, trilobed apex of both proplicae and metaplicaae, long antetorsal process originating near arculus, extended torsal region, and telopodite without processes or lobes. Species. The type species only.
Distribution. Northeastern Tanzania and adjacent Kenya, primarily at higher elevations.
