Otostigmus nemorensis Silvestri, 1895 View in CoL
Otostigma nemorense Silvestri, 1895 , 716. Sumatra.
Otostigmus nemorensis: Kraepelin, 1903 View in CoL , 119, Fig. 56 View FIGURES 55 – 62 . Sumatra, Java. O. (O.) nemorensis: Attems, 1930 View in CoL , 142.
Description. Type material not examined. (Silvestri’s data augmented from Kraepelin (1903) the latter in parentheses). Length 44 mm. 21–23 antennal articles, (the basal 2.33 glabrous). 3+3 (or 4+4) forcipular coxosternal teeth. Tergites (without keels or spinules), with paramedian sutures from 4 (5), marginate from 7 (8). Sternites with short (anterior) paramedian sutures and with a posterior median depression. Sternite of ultimate leg-bearing segment subquadrate with a median sulcus (and posterior margin straight). Coxopleural process with two apical and one lateral spine. Legs 1–21 with a tarsal spur. (Two tarsal spurs on legs 1–4, 5–21 with one). Ultimate leg prefemoral spines 5, 3, 3, 3 (VL 4, VM 2, M 2–3, DM 1–2, CS 1).
Remarks. Kraepelin did not examine the type material presumably adding to Silvestri’s data from his Javan material. Attems (1930) repeated Kraepelin’s description except that he stated tergites with spinules ( dornstrichelig), probably an error. O. nemorensis is very similar to O. sucki and Kraepelin stated that O. sucki was in many ways a spine-streaked O. nemorensis but I consider that the available data are not sufficient for a definite decision to be made as to its status and therefore regard it, for the present, as a nomen dubium.
