OPISUCHUS AIGLSTORFER ET AL. , GEN. NOV.

Lsid: zoobank.org:act: AE752D3C-FD70-4E7D-93C4- 30A186FFEA14.

Type species: Opisuchus meieri (by monotypy).

Etymology: The specimen represents one of the oldest Metriorhynchoidea and can thus be considered a ‘grandfather’ of the clade. We combined the lithostratigraphic origin from the Opalinuston Formation and the German nickname for grandfather, Opi, with suchus, the Latinized form of the Greek σοῦχος, crocodile.

Diagnosis: As for the type species.
