Type species

Perictenus molecula sp. nov. Etymology

The generic name is a combination of ‘ peri ’ (around) and ‘ Ctenus ’ referring to the phylogenetic place of the genus in relation to Ctenus . The gender of the genus is masculine.

Diagnosis

The diagnostic characters of this monospecific genus Perictenus are mentioned under the species diagnosis.

Description

Ecribellate ctenids. Medium size, body length (males and females) 11 – 13. Carapace piriform ( Fig. 28A, B View Figure 28 ), brownish with paler central part and pattern of fine dark stripes; dispersed dark setae and pale setae along anterior margins; thoracic groove longitudinal, located in the posterior third of the carapace. Chilum divided. Clypeus with few erect black bristles. Ctenid eyes pattern 2 – 4 – 2, with the anterior and posterior row recurved in dorsal view. Eyes round, except oval anterior lateral eyes. Chelicerae dark brown, with long erect hairs; promargin with three teeth, the median higher than the laterals; retromargin with four teeth, basal smallest; intermarginal denticles absent. Endites brown with lighter apical area, external lateral margin excavated, distally bearing dense apical scopulae and subapical serrula. Labium brown, distally rounded bearing dense apical scopula. Sternum medium to dark brown, shield-shaped, not extending between coxae IV. Legs brown. Male legs slightly more elongate and slender than female legs. Trochanters notched. Abdomen oval ( Fig. 28A, B View Figure 28 ), with dispersed short setae. Male palp ( Figs 29A, B, 30A – C): tibia short, with ventral projection and basal depression; RTA originating near posterior margin; cymbium short, blunt, with large dorsolateral horn at base, with ventral depression; subtegulum prolateral; tegulum oval; MA with dorsal concavity, massive, almost rounded; embolus wide, short, curved apex, with laminar process and pars pendula, with small, blunt, median projection pointing upward; locking lobes present; conductor short, curved, hyaline. Epigyne ( Figs 29C, 31A – D View Figure 31 ): divided in MS and two LS; MS constricted in front and with very short subrectangular posterior part, central part wide, covering LS except for distal part of strongly curved, sharp hooks; spermathecae oval, converging towards the front ( Fig. 31C, D View Figure 31 ).
