Dorcus vavrai Nonfried, 1905: 12 View in CoL ( new synonymy).

Examined material. 1 male ( syntype of D. vavrai ), Khosrova, Persia, coll. Nonfried ( MZB) ; 1 male, Kuhgiloyeh & Boyerahmad: 20 km S of Yasuj, Vezg pass, 26.VI.2011, I. Legezin ( CLB).

Distribution. Palaearctic species quoted from Greece, Bulgaria, Armenia, Israel, Syria, Turkey, Iran ( Bartolozzi & Sprecher-Uebersax 2006; Bunalski et al. 2014).

Distribution in Iran. “Koshrowa, Persich Kurdistan” [= West Azerbaijan: Khosrova, Salmas] ( Nonfried 1905); Fars ( Petrovitz 1980); Kuhgiloyeh & Boyerahmad, Fars, Lorestan ( Král 2004, as D. vavrai ).

Remarks. Reiche & Saulcy (1856) gave a very detailed and accurate description of D. peyronis with a good illustration ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 ). During a visit to the Natural History Museum of Berlin, one of us (LB) had the opportunity to study a syntype specimen of Dorcus vavrai Nonfried, 1905 (Fig. 6) and thus to verify the identity between D. peyronis and D. vavrai ( new synonymy)
