Gymnetron verbasci Rosenschoeld, 1838 View in CoL
This species was described based on female specimens collected at Tiflis (currently Tbilisi in Georgia) on Verbascum formosum , which were distinguished from R. tetra by the longer rostrum. Brisout de Barneville (1865) studied a female syntype and considered it a large specimen of R. amicta . Hoffmann (1958) considered both taxa as synonyms of R. tetra . We examined a syntype of G. verbasci (probably the same examined by Brisout de Barneville) at NHRS labelled “♀ / Typus / Cleopus in Verbasco formoso, Tiflis, Steven” ( lectotype here designated). It differs from female R. tetra by the distinctly longer rostrum.
