Galilia petricola Komai & Tsuchida, 2014 View in CoL

[New Japanese name: Iwaba-kobushi-gani]

( Figure 9 View FIGURE 9 )

Galilia petricola Komai & Tsuchida, 2014: 300 View in CoL View Cited Treatment , figs. 18–21, 30.— Shih et al. 2015: 129 View Cited Treatment , figs. 1B, 3.— Takeda & Komatsu 2023: 174 (list).

Material examined. JAMSTEC 106859, 1 male (24.5×25.0 mm), KM20-10 C cruise, KM-ROV dive #133, Nikko Seamount , northern Central Mariana Ridge, 23°04.97'N, 142°19.51'E, 482 m, rock, suction sampler, 9 December 2020 GoogleMaps .

Genetic data. COI gene: LC856570 View Materials (657 bp); 16S rRNA gene: LC856566 View Materials (541 bp) .

Remarks. The present specimen agrees well with the original description by Komai & Tsuchida (2014). Shih et al. (2015) noted that tubercles on the branchial regions were more numerous in the Taiwanese specimen than in the type material, suggesting that more variation might be seen in this character. Nevertheless, it seems that the tubercles are less coarse in G. petricola (cf. Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 ; Komai & Tsuchida 2014: fig. 19A, C; Shih et al. 2015: fig. 1B) than in G. narusei Ng & Richer de Forges, 2007 ( Ng & Richer de Forges 2007: fig. 2).

Here we provide sequences of the COI and 16S rRNA genes of Galilia petricola for the first time. In the BLAST search, there were no COI sequences showing high similarities (>90%) to that of G. petricola ; the 16S rRNA gene sequence had 94% similarity to sequences of Tanaoa pustulosus (Wood Mason, in Wood-Mason & Alcock, 1891) ( MZ424937 View Materials , MZ424938 View Materials , MZ424939 View Materials : Muñoz et al. 2021). No genetic data is available for the congeneric G. narusei .

Distribution. Presently known only from Nikko Seamount, Central Mariana Ridge, and off southern Taiwan, 482–595 m deep ( Komai & Tsuchida 2014; Shih et al. 2015; this study).
