30. Culex cayennensis Floch & Abonnenc, 1945a: 4 View in CoL (M).
Holotype M: Cayenne, French Guiana ( IPP *); coll. E. Abonnenc; 17 Jan. 1940; no. 286.
Culex cayennensis was synonymized with Cx. vomerifer by Lane (1953: 430), resurrected from synonymy by Floch & Kramer (1965: 3) and finally synonymized with Cx. portesi by Aitken & Galindo (1966: 198). The holotype (wrongly dated from 1941 in the original publication), originally deposited in the IPG, was found in the IPP by Belkin (1968: 14) but was not seen by Harrison (1973: 279), and was established as non-extant by Pecor et al. (1992: 61). The holotype was found in the general collection of the IPP during this study. The rest of the type series ( paratype no. 285) is deposited in the MNHP.
