Current status: Anthophora (Paramegilla) furcotibialis Wu, 1985 View in CoL .

Remark: The subgenus of this taxon was not designated by Wu (1990: 418). Brooks (1988: 476) placed the taxon into the subgenus Paramegilla . Wu (2000) added the holotype identification label with this subgenus assignment. Nevertheless, P. Rasmont labelled the taxon as subgenus Caranthophora . Anthophora furcotibialis has a very special morphology of hind tibias and basitarsis, as it is also the case in most of Caranthophora and Paramegilla species, explaining this hesitation. However, the genitalia of subgenus Caranthophora show especially broadened penis valves, that is not the case in any Paramegilla . The genitalia of A. furcotibialis are similar to those of most Paramegilla with no broadened penis valvae. Shape of St7 and St8 are also much more similar to Paramegilla than Caranthophora . For these reasons, we choose here to follow Brooks (1988), Wu (2000) and Ascher & Pickering (2024) in assigning A. furcotibialis to the subgenus Paramegilla . Wu (2000) designated another male (holds labels: Xizang, Shajia, Jiding, 22.VIII.1982, coll. Luosang, Bianba, Sengmujiu // Anthophora (Paramegilla) furcotibialis Wu , ♂, ǎîx: Dzě如 [det. Yan-Ru Wu] // HOLOTYPE <red label> // IOZ(E)205414 <blue label> // Anthophora (Caranthophora) furcotibialis Wu, 1985 , det. P. Rasmont, 2019) as the holotype of this taxon, but this is an invalid designation. This specimen dated 22.VIII.1982 is erroneously labelled “ HOLOTYPE ”. Indeed, only the true HOLOTYPE specimen dated “ 17.VI.1982 ” was cited in the original descrition of this species.

Distribution: China (Sichuan, Xizang); India.
