Description. Male. Body length: 2.72–3.09 mm. Length of rostrum: 1.41–1.53 mm. Maximum width across pronotum: 1.30–1.47 mm. Pronotal length: 0.95–1.06 mm. Length of pronotal process: 0.75–0.89 mm. Maximum width across elytra: 2.03–2.36 mm. Elytral length: 1.98–2.27 mm. Sutural length: 1.06–1.23 mm. Habitus as shown in Figures 3, 4 View Figs . Integument black; head, rostrum, antennae, prothorax, upper side of fore femora, fore and mid tibiae, and tarsi reddish brown; humeral parts often tinged with red.
Head generally clothed with golden-brown narrow scales and with oblong-ovate whitish ones in periphery; forehead clothed with large whitish oval scales, in addition to brownish narrow scales. Prothorax with golden-brown narrow scale directing internally; latero-ventral parts each with lanceolate whitish scales, in addition to golden-brown narrow ones, forming indistinct stripe. Elytra mottled with rather small patches formed of lanceolate white scales; each granule on intervals bearing black narrow scale, sparsely mixing with brownish ones; interval 1 with white patch of oval scales at base. Meso- and metasterna moderately covered with whitish to yellowish oblong-ovate scales. Concavity on ventrite 5 mixed with minute hair-like scales, in addition to general scaling. Pygidium clothed with blackish narrow scale, which become light-colored in periphery; lateral margin often with whitish oblong-ovate scales.
Rostrum ( Fig. 11) 1.44–1.48 times as long as pronotum. Prothorax broader, 1.36–1.40 times as wide as long; pronotal process 0.67–0.79 times as long as elytral suture. Pygidium faintly and reticulately punctured; interstices between punctures narrow, shining. Genitalia ( Figs. 25–28 View Figs ) with aedeagal body and orifice relatively broad. Otherwise practically as in X. consularis .
Female.Body length: 2.80–3.25 mm. Length of rostrum: 1.59–1.91 mm. Maximum width across pronotum: 1.30–1.56 mm. Pronotal length: 0.94–1.14 mm. Length of pronotal process: 0.73–0.92

Showing almost the same sexual dimorphism as in X. consularis , except spermatheca with cornu strongly curved ( Fig. 33 View Figs ).
Type Series. Holotype male (Type No. 3173, ELKU), [ TAIWAN] Hungtou , Lanhsu Is., Taitung Hsien, 30–31. iii. 1995, H. Kojima . Paratypes. 94 males and 57 females, same data as the holotype ( ELKU, TWU) ; 22 males and 14 females, same locality as the holotype, 29–31. iii. 2000, H. Yoshitake ( ELKU, TWU) .
Distribution (Map 1). This species is known to occur only on Lanhsu, a subtropical island whose fauna has been influenced strongly by that of the Philippines ( Kano 1933).
Etymology. The specific name refers to the reddish brown prothorax.
Biological Note. This species is considered to have almost the same life history as X. consularis . However, it is known to be associated only with the shell ginger, Alpinia speciosa (Wendland) Schumann , at the moment ( Fig. 42), and adults have been collected only in late March.
