Diagnosis. Males differ from those of Apochinomma Pavesi, 1881 in the presence of a paracymbial spine ( Fig. 15b–d View FIGURE 15 ) and from those of Sphecotypus in lacking a well-developed mentum and a subquadrate anterior sternal projection, Bonaldo, in litt.). Carapace strongly constricted medially dorsoventrally ( Fig. 14e, f View FIGURE 14 ); back eye row much wider than front row and clearly recurved ( Fig. 15a View FIGURE 15 ); male palpal bulb simple ( Fig. 15b View FIGURE 15 ), as in most castianeirines.

Type Species: Melanesotypus guadal View in CoL sp. nov.

Etymology. The generic name derives from the Melanesian islands.
