Remarks. Lamia axillaris was described based a single specimen from Brazil. In the same year, Germar (1823) described the same species with the same name, based on a single specimen also from Brazil. Germar (1839) observed the homonymy and reported: “643. Lamia axillaris , Callia . M. Dalmann [ sic] l’a décrit sous le meme nom [Mr. Dalman described it with the same name].” Germar (1839) did not indicate which name had priority because he considered his description as published in 1824, only indicating the synonymy. However, according to Bousquet (2016): “Despite that the title page is dated 1824, this book was published by October 1823. Ersch (1828: 1166) dated the book 1823.” Bousquet (2016) informed on the work by Dalman (1823): “ Analecta entomologica. Cum tabulis IV aeneis. J.P. Lindh, Holmiae [= Stockholm]. vii + 104 + [4 (Index)] + 4 pls. (4to) [DP: 1823 (title page), 7 September 1823 (Evenhuis 1997a: 190), September 1823 ( Not Geb Natur), December 1823 ( Isis, Heft XII : [2])] CNC, GB.” Therefore, assuming that the information from Bousquet (2016) is reliable, Lamia axillaris Germar is a junior synonym of Lamia axillaris Dalman. Callia flavofemorata was described based on a single specimen from Brazil; and Callia pulchra was described based on specimens from Brazil ( Paraná, Santa Catarina). Monné & Giesbert (1992) synonymized C. flavofemorata with C. axillaris ; and Wappes & Santos-Silva (2020) synonymized C. pulchra with C. axillaris .
Currently, it is known from Brazil ( Bahia, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul), Bolivia ( Santa Cruz and Tarija), Paraguay, Argentina ( Tucumán, Misiones, and Corrientes), and Uruguay ( Monné 2024b).
