Hymenasplenium basiscopicum (R.C.Moran & Sundue) L.Regalado & Prada, Amer. Fern J. View in CoL 101(4): 290. 2011.
= Asplenium basiscopicum R.C.Moran & Sundue, Brittonia 56(2): 124–127, f. 1. 2004.
Range:— Endemic to Bolivia (BE, LP, SC), to be expected in southern Peru.
Ecology:— Uncommon; terrestrial in humid forests; 450–1850 m.
Notes:— This recently described species includes specimens referred to Asplenium purpurascens Mett. ex Kuhn (= Hymenasplenium purpurascens (Mett. ex Kuhn) L.Regalado & Prada ) by Smith et al. (1999) and later described as a new species by Moran & Sundue (2004).
Hymenasplenium ortegae (N.Murak. & R.C.Moran) L.Regalado & Prada , from Venezuela to central Peru may occur in Bolivia. It agrees with H. basiscopicum in having short-creeping rhizomes and atropurpureous petioles but has the veins 2–4-forked ( vs. 1–2-forked) in the middle of the blades and grooved rachises with adaxial green wings ( vs. grooved, unwinged rachises).
