COMMENTS

Variable species, with tendency for forming local distinctive populations. There are several forms that could be described as separated (sub)species, but always intermediate forms are found. Thus, the decision to keep it as one species. The western individuals ( Ivory Coast, Mauritania, Senegal) have the micropunctation on the head sparser, while most, but not all, individuals from other locations the micropunctation is more dense (e.g., specimens from Uganda and Zambia with also sparser micropunctation). The color seems also regionally variable: western species are brighter, eastern darker. One individual from Madagascar is completely dark, two other from Madagascar completely reddish, with no other differences.

This species seems widely distributed in the entire sub-Sahara Africa, but also Egypt and Cyprus up to India and Sri Lanka ( ASSING, 2022).
