Toxidium View in CoL comprises only 34 described species, of which seven are from the Neotropical Region. Only T. acuminatum Pic, 1920c View in CoL is reported to Brazil. In this paper, seven new species are described for Minas Gerais, Brazil. These new species represent just about half of the collected species.

General description (* = variable characters within the genera, but not variable in the species below; Löbl & Leschen 2003b; Leschen & Löbl 2005)

Body compressed laterally ( Figs 2K View Fig , 65A View Fig ).

HEAD. Frontoclypeal suture present ( Fig. 65H View Fig ). Labral setae simple ( Fig. 66A View Fig ). Mandibles with two apical teeth and subapical serrations ( Fig. 66B–C View Fig ). Maxillary palpomeres normal; galea wide, with radulate brush ( Fig. 66D View Fig ). Eyes anteriorly notched ( Fig. 65I View Fig ). Antennomeres III and IV elongate ( Fig. 65J View Fig ).

PROTHORAX. Hypomeron visible in lateral view, not extending beyond pronotum ( Fig. 65B View Fig ). Prothoracic carinae prominent. Prothoracic corbiculum absent.

MESOTHORAX. Median lines absent. Mesoventral space (prepectus) present. Mesoventral lines impunctate, connecting to mesocoxal cavity ( Fig. 67B View Fig ). Secondary lines present ( Fig. 67D View Fig ). Mesoventral process paxillate ( Fig. 67C View Fig ). Mesepimeron absent ( Fig. 71B View Fig ). Meso- and metaventrite not fused ( Fig. 67B View Fig ).

METATHORAX. Mesocoxal lines parallel to coxae, impunctate ( Fig. 67D View Fig ). Lacking metaventral setose patch. Intercoxal plates present. Metacoxae contiguous.

WINGS. Hind wings developed ( Fig. 67L View Fig ). Elytral basal stria absent*. Sutural striae shortened* ( Fig. 2K View Fig ). Apical serrations on elytra absent.

LEGS. Profemoral ctenidium absent. Mesotibiae with two apical spines, very distinct in length ( Fig. 90F View Fig ). Metatarsi about as long as metatibiae ( Fig. 65B View Fig ).

ABDOMEN. Submetacoxal space absent. Submetacoxal bead punctate ( Fig. 72D View Fig ). Membranes of abdominal ventrites with brick-wall pattern ( Fig. 86H View Fig ).
