Revised description. Medium-sized, slender fusiform shell with high spire; apical angle ~55°. Protoconch unknown. Teleoconch of up to six whorls; suture weakly incised, shallowly undulating. Early teleoconch whorls weakly shouldered with about nine broad axial ribs with rapidly widening interspaces, fading over subsutural ramp. Broad, weakly concave subsutural ramp with weakly scabrose cord, adis, IP, abis distinct (on penultimate and antepenultimate whorls) with slightly wider interspace between adis and IP; tertiary threads may be present. Shoulder placed mid-whorl with prominent P1, swollen over axial ribs; P2 prominent, s1, s2 weaker. Last whorl attaining ~73–77% of total height; with concave subsutural ramp, angled or slightly rounded shoulder, weakly convex to subcylindrical periphery, moderately constricted below. Spiral sculpture of broad, scabrose subsutural collar, prominent adis, IP, abis. P1 most prominent, forming blunt tubercles over axial ribs. P1–P6 (P6 on convex part of base), ADP, MP, ABP, EAB1, s4–s5 occasionally prominent, convex of subequal strength; s1–s3 slightly weaker. One narrow tertiary thread in interspaces between primary and secondary cords at periphery. Fasciole strongly swollen, twisted, delimiting distinct, moderately wide pseudoumbilicus. Aperture narrowly ovate; outer lip thickened by terminal varix, with crenulate edge, bearing ID, D6 making short lirae close behind peristome; ID simple, D1–D6 occasionally bifid. Anal canal moderately incised, poorly delimited. Siphonal canal moderately long, narrow, fused. Slightly bent to the left, weakly dorsally recurved at tip. Columella weakly excavated, smooth, slightly twisted at siphonal canal. Columellar callus forming broad rim, sharply delimited, weakly erect at siphonal canal, adherent in parietal area.
Paratethyan synonyms. When introducing Murex ( Occenebra [sic]) caelatus badensis as the name for this species, Hoernes & Auinger (1885) overlooked that Murex badensis was already preoccupied by Nyst (1881). When establishing Murex condigus, De Gregorio (1885a: 245) also discussed Murex sublavatus of Hörnes 1856: 236, pl. 24, figs 14–15] but Murex condigus is based on syntypes from Ciminna ( Italy), and therefore it is not a synonym of Ocinebrinopsis orientalis .
Discussion. This species is characterized by its slender outline and fused siphonal canal (note that the canal is damaged in Figs 32A, E View FIGURE 32 ). It differs from Ocinebrinopsis credneri (Hoernes & Auinger, 1885) in its smaller size, higher spire and narrower subsutural ramp. Ocinebrinopsis dominicii sp. nov. is slenderer and has a longer and open siphonal canal.
Paleoenvironment. Occurrences in the Baden Formation of the Vienna Basin suggest middle to outer neritic environments in up to 250 m water depth ( Kranner et al. 2021) .
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Korytnica Basin: Korytnica( Poland) (Friedberg 1928); Vienna Basin: Baden-Sooss, Bad Vöslau ( Austria) (Hoernes & Auinger 1885); Borský Mikuláš ( Slovakia) ( Švagrovský 1982); Pannonian Basin: Márkháza, Várpalota ( Hungary) ( Kovács & Vicián 2024; Strausz 1966); Bükk Mountains: Borsodbóta ( Hungary) ( Csepreghy-Meznerics 1972); Southern Carpathians: between Dubova and Pojejena ( Romania) ( Stancu et al. 1971); Făget Basin: Coşteiu de Sus ( Romania) (Hoernes & Auinger 1885); Dacian Basin: Dobrusha, Târnene ( Bulgaria) (Kojumdgieva in Kojumdgieva & Strachimirov 1960; Nikolov 1994).
