Type material. Lectotype (designated herein): SL: 26 mm, MD: 14 mm, Zborów (Zboriv) ( Ukraine), illustrated in Friedberg (1912: pl. 10, figs 4a–b), Figs 28A View FIGURE 28 1 –A View FIGURE 1 2 View FIGURE 2 . Paralectotype: SL: 20 mm, MD: 13 mm, Zborów (Zboriv) ( Ukraine), illustrated in Friedberg (1912: pl. 10, figs 5a–b), 28B 1 –B 2. We are not aware of the whereabouts of the type material .
Revised description. Medium-sized, fusiform shell with low, conical spire and high last whorl; apical angle ~65°. Protoconch unknown. Early teleoconch whorls with shallow subsutural ramp and shoulder placed in adapical third of whorls.Axial sculpture of three broad varices with one slightly weaker intervarical rib, overrun by broad adis, IP, abis, P1, P2 and P3 of subequal strength; s1, s2 slightly weaker. Last whorl attaining ~77–80% of total height; pyriform with weakly concave subsutural ramp, shoulder angulation, moderately convex periphery, moderately constricted below. Axial sculpture of three broad varices and one weaker intervarical rib. Spiral sculpture on subsutural ramp of prominent adis, IP, abis and secondary cords of subequal strength. P1 most prominent, slightly swollen over varices. P2–P5 forming broad, convex cords; P6 weak, s1–s5, ADP, MP, ABP slightly weaker the other primary cords. Fasciole indistinct, delimiting broad pseudoumbilicus. Aperture narrowly ovate; outer lip thickened without denticles. Anal canal indistinct; siphonal canal moderately long, probably fused in fully grown specimens. Columella broadly excavated. Columellar callus forming broad, sharply delimited rim, erect at siphonal canal, adherent in parietal area.
Discussion. Ocenebra zboroviensis ( Friedberg, 1912) is slightly reminiscent of the Early Miocene Ocenebra littoralis sp. nov. but differs in its smaller size, weaker varices and longer siphonal canal. Ocinebrina friedbergi Montanaro, 1935 , from the Tortonian of Montegibbio ( Italy), is superficially reminiscent of Ocenebra zboroviensis in general shape but differs in its minute size and the broader, deeply concave subsutural ramp (see Montanaro 1935: pl. 3, fig. 13).
Ocenebra zboroviensis is known so far only from the Polish-Ukrainian Fore-Carpathian Basin and seems to be an endemic species, as also observed within Nassariidae ( Harzhauser & Kowalke 2004) and Cerithiidae (own data M.H.).
Paleoenvironment. Shallow marine, inner neritic.
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Polish-Ukrainian Fore-Carpathian Basin: Zborów (Zboriv) ( Ukraine) ( Friedberg 1912).
