Arrow (1917) proposed an incorrect synonymy of A. pilosella Fairmaire, 1898 with A. hirsutula from Tonkin and China. Subsequently, Lin (1996a) indicated that A. hirsutula is until then endemic to China. The record from Tonkin may be represented by other species of the hirsutula -group ( Miyake, 1994, 1996).
