Our westernmost record, from Rainy Lake, is west of the Ontario distribution mapped by Wallis
(1961) but within the range mapped by Pearson et al. (2015) ( Fig. 5 View Fig ). Based on the ranges mapped by Pearson et al. (2015), northern Ontario records belong to the subspecies C. hirticollis hirticollis , though new research suggests that this species is genetically homogenous in eastern North America ( D. P. Duran, unpublished data). This species is widely distributed across North America (Pearson et al. 2015), and in Ontario it is almost exclusively found on sandy edges of rivers and lakes .
