Indonesia records: North Obi Island ( Maluku Sea), north Darem Island (Banda Arc) ( Hansen 1910), among Nias, Pini and Tabahbala Islands (western part of Sumatra Island; Indian Ocean) ( Illig 1930) and southern part of Java Island (Indian Ocean) ( Taniguchi 1974). Depth range: Closing vertical net, from 1000 m or 750 m to the sea surface ( Hansen 1910), non-closing vertical net from 677 to 520 m ( Illig 1930) and at 430 m ( Taniguchi 1974).

Global distribution: This species has a very wide distribution from Chilean waters (G.O. Sars 1884), Bay of Biscay, Atlantic Ocean (Holt & W.M. Tattersall 1905; Nouvel & Lagardère 1976; San Vicente 2017), Southeast Pacific ( Hansen 1912), West Atlantic (W.M. Tattersall 1926) and Bermuda waters (W.M. Tattersall 1936), Indian Ocean (W.M. Tattersall 1939), North Pacific ( Banner 1948), Western Atlantic, off Bermuda, Straits of Florida, North of Bahama Bank, Galapagos Islands (W.M. Tattersall 1951), Ireland (W.M. Tattersall & O.S. Tattersall 1951), Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, Africa (O.S. Tattersall 1955), Antarctic waters ( Birstein & Tchindonova 1962), Japan ( Ii 1964; Murano 1977), Indian Ocean ( Pillai 1965), Canary Archipelago ( Haroun & Sanahuja 2003) and Mediterranean Sea ( Wittmann & Ariani 2010).
