Indonesia records: Sailus Kecil Island, Tampaang, Sarasang Island (Flores Sea), Makassar Strait, Siau Island ( Maluku Sea), Southwest of Gebe Island (Halmahera Sea) ( Hansen 1910), Aceh water ( Pillai 1973), western part of Sumatra Island and southern part of Java Island (Indian Ocean) ( Taniguchi 1974). Depth range: Closing vertical net from 1000 m and from 11 m to the sea surface, plankton net from 10 m to the sea surface ( Hansen 1910) and non- closing vertical net at 86 m ( Taniguchi 1974).

Global distribution: This species is distributed in Australia (W.M. Tattersall 1936; Lowry & Stoddart 2003; Talbot 2009), South China Sea ( Ii 1964; Wang & Liu 1994; Liu & Wang 2000), Indian Ocean ( Pillai 1973), East China Sea ( Wang & Liu 1997; Xu & Shen 2007), Korea ( Jo et al. 1998; Lee et al. 2015) and Western Pacific ( Lin et al. 2011).
